Associate Professor Davide Ciucci came to SMALE Lab on September 23 and left on September 27.During the afternoon of September 25, 2019,Davide shared knowledge representation and machine learning at Mingli Building B306,Ms.Wen presided over the lecture,Participants in the lectures included some graduate students from several institutes and many teachers from the smale lab.

Davide Ciucci received a PhD in 2004 in computer science from the University of Milan and the Habilitation (HdR) from the University of Toulouse III in 2013. He is currently associate professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca. His research activity is about uncertainty representation and management, with particular reference to rough sets and non-classical logics, on which he published more than 90 papers. He is president of the International Rough Set Society, Senior Area Editor of Int. J. of Approximate Reasoning and Associate Editor of Array.

He introduced the notion of orthopair as a set with uncertain boundaries and discussed its relationship to some knowledge representation tools including three-valued logics and rough sets. A collection of orthopairs were used to define an orthopartition as a generalized partition with uncertainty. Finally, uncertainty measures was introduced on orthopairs and orthopartitions and their applicability to Machine Learning was investigated, in particular to evaluate soft clustering algorithms and to address data ambiguity with the proposal of some three-way-in and three-way-our learning algorithms.

During the lab exchange, Davide also exercised with the teachers. The lab took him to visit Sanxingdui and played Dujiangyan to experience the Chinese culture.
